Awfully inspired by the Da Vinci biography. Details, layers. Taking my time. Investigation into the language between art and sciences: visual art and engineering.

Perhaps only when you get to my age, you will truly derive joy from just physics, just chemistry, not tying them with any practical use. In fact, I think: Natural sciences are receding into a background with the philosophies and literature. The appreciation of them is becoming humanities-like .The pure enjoyment of understanding the world - a much romanticized notion. Only elderlies like myself may be able to afford to do, or WANT to do, instead of running businesses
Speaking of art pursuits:
I got into science because of art, and I got deeper into art because of science.
The first time I noticed that my camera was lying to me, was when I had live nude models come into my apartment, and going out there to see real trees, animals, in the woods, I see light and shadows, in the distant mountains, i see undulating shades, gradients of greens, that my camera simply couldn’t capture
I saw skin colors I never saw before
I saw tree leaf behaviors I had never seen
How can I simplify what I see so that the actual painting can appear real to the viewer
Also noticed my scanner dude when taking pictures of 50+ layers of paint, the camera does “see” the difference. And if artwork is to be digitally communicated, and our eyes can no longer fill in the gap, the layers (hard work) ought to be there
But I didn’t even understand the basics of optics
I didn’t understand basic physics
Camera is translating image into pixels. What is an image. What is real.
So I looked into science.
Then I of course realize it’s a pain to only observe live. I can’t keep a shadow there forever. I can’t keep my nude friend posing forever. I can’t keep the animal there forever. So I photograph, with a trying to remember what it looked like live, maybe some side sketches, and then learn to only use the photograph as a reference . How do I not cheat myself?
